How to make children brush teeth on their own?sensiteeth-millionmars-11

If you have kids, you must know that teaching them to brush their teeth can be challenging. It takes a lot of practices, patience and some tricks. For busy parents, it can be frustrating sometimes when kids refuse to cooperate in getting their teeth brushed. So, today I am going to share with you 5 fun ways to teach your kids to brush their teeth!

1. Show Them How You Do It

Every morning and night, let kids watch how you brush teeth and show them how to do it the right way. Kids like to follow what the adults are doing. So the best way to help your children develop the habit is to first, do it yourself. This principle applies to almost all things you want to train your child to do, which includes eating healthily and get to bed early. When they see you brushing your teeth every day, they will be interested to try it out too!

 2. Make It A Routine

Same as sleep training, you can make brushing teeth a routine, no matter how your kids protest or refuse to do it. You can help them to brush their teeth every morning before the bath and every night before changing into their pajamas. Make it in a specific sequence, so that next time before they changed into their pajamas, they will expect to brush the teeth first. Once the action is repeated over and over again, it will soon become a habit. One thing you need to take note of, as parent you must do as what you say. Don’t make excuses for your kids or yourself so that you can skip the routine for once. And when kids know that you always do what you say you will do, they will be more likely to obey and stick to the routine.

When baby first teething at 6 months, the enamel of baby teeth is less densely mineralized than the enamel of permanent teeth, making them particularly susceptible to caries. Hence, it is advisable to start oral hygiene as soon as baby’s first tooth emerges. It is important to protect the baby teeth as they play an extremely important role in the growth and development of every child. They also hold spaces for the growth of permanent teeth and mental development such as confidence and self-esteem. Therefore, if you are starting early to introduce your baby about oral hygiene, make sure you choose a safe and baby friendly toothpaste.

3. Tell A Story

I find this particularly useful when my child is around 3 year old and is able to understand and enjoy story. I will tell her story about a little bear who doesn’t like to brush his teeth, who eventually ended up visiting the dentist due to the pain caused by caries. There are quite a lot of books in the bookstores that can help young children to understand the importance of oral hygiene.

By age 3, a child should be able to spit out the toothpaste after brushing. Therefore, it’s the time to introduce them the toothpaste with calcium-flouride formulation, as fluoride helps to prevent and control tooth decay while calcium can help to grow stronger teeth.

 4. Make Brushing Teeth Fun

If it seems like a routine task, kids will do anything to reject it, but making it fun may change that. For example, instead of saying “Let’s go to bath now!”, I always say “Let’s go and play bubbles!”

It works everytime!

Use your imagination and create some games that you can play with your kids while getting the teeth brushed. Fun makes everything exciting and will be able to encourage your kids to brush teeth with joy. I buy my child fancy tooth brush that has her favourite cartoon character on it and will emit red blinking light when she brushes her teeth, she loves it!

5. Choose The Great Tasting Toothpastes

Let’s be honest, kids love it when the toothpaste taste good! It will save you a lot of trouble to try to convince them how important it is to brush their teeth when you have a great tasting toothpaste.
